The NV Tinto "Casal Garcia," screwcapped, is a Touriga Nacional / Tinta Roriz blend, unoaked, fruity and friendly. It is surprisingly delightful, given its modest status. Sure, a wine like this ultimately has some limitations in structure and concentration, but this does what it sets out to do pretty well. It will sure be a party pleaser, fresh and clean, with a slight sour cherry note on the finish. Without much depth, it has good balance and texture, is easy to drink and awfully tasty. As a low end entrant, it is quite appealing and likely to appeal to both casual drinkers and more serious ones. If you drink it young and fresh, you may like it better than the score would suggest. Make sure to buy the current release. I'm told this particular bottling, as reviewed, is in fact 2010; it came with a production code on the back label of L224.1 Drink now.
